Description

Little Paradise is a guest farm in the heart of the Midlands Meander of KwaZulu-Natal, 3 kilometres from Balgowan Station and Michaelhouse School. Our farm is situated on a hillside with a breathtaking view over the Balgowan valley to Nottingham Road and Giant’s Castle.

The land supports abundant bird life including the long crested eagle, jackal buzzard and the rare Cape parrot. Animal residents include duiker, reedbuck, bushbuck, scrub hare and vervet monkeys. We have a small, precious patch of indigenous forest and fields of wild flowers in spring.

We grow rosemary, giant garlic, pecan nuts and proteas and the farm participates in research programmes for the cultivation of rosemary and the production of essential oils.

Accommodation

The Guest Farm offers four double suites nestled on the edge of a pine forest. Each suite comprises a spacious bedroom, a full en suite bathroom and a French window opening onto a private covered deck.

The king-size bed is dressed in luxurious, crisp white linen. The décor reflects simple understated elegance where the emphasis is on comfort in a relaxed atmosphere. A hospitality tray and fridge with minibar complete the picture.
One of the suites has luxurious twin beds.

Our guests can enjoy sumptuous farmhouse breakfasts served in ‘The Barn’.
The pub offers a congenial atmosphere, brilliant sunsets and a view that goes on forever!

Come, relax and enjoy our special kind of magic at Little Paradise

Attractions

Little Paradise provides an opportunity to experience the country at its best. Walking on the farm reveals the many wild flowers, while strolling through the blue fields of rosemary is quite invigorating. Bird life is excellent and from May to July the rare Cape parrots honour us with their presence. This is a twitchers paradise! Visit a neighbouring farm to observe how strawberries are organically grown. Walking in indigenous forest and horse riding can also be arranged.

For those who seek tranquility, sit on the deck with a tall drink and enjoy the view. In the early evening duiker, reedbuck and bushbuck emerge to graze in the last light of day while scrub hares scurry about their business. You may be lucky and spot the Cape clawless otters or the shy aardvark. Vervet monkeys are not fussed about concealing their presence as they forage for their living.

If you prefer eating out then the Midlands is for you. There are many highly rated establishments in the area.

Little Paradise is situated in the heart of the Midlands Meander of KwaZulu-Natal. Initiated in the 1970s by a group of enthusiastic crafters, the Midlands Meander has grown such that it is South Africa’s Premier country route. The mission statement of the Meander is “to provide an enriching experience for the tourist by means of a varied array of hospitality, arts and crafts, and outdoor activities in a beautiful and unique country setting”.
